Needed a Linux/Unix packet analysis program
Found Ethereal in late 1998
Very few application protocols at that stage
Developed a number of dissectors in 1999 and 2000
POP, TFTP, FTP, Telnet, SMB, SMTP, BXXP
Helped with various bits of infrastructure and ideas
